Cylinder styli are designed to inspect especially thin features of the workpiece, where the correct contact with a ball stylus cannot be executed. Straight styli are used to detect easily reachable features on the measured surface. Because of the adhesive material build up, the scanning of aluminium surfaces with ruby tips is not recommended.
